PRAMATHESH BARUA COLLEGE
Students’ performance shall be monitored throughout the semesters by continuous assessment in theory and practical courses. Evaluation of the students’ performance in each of the theory paper and practical paper will be based on the following criterion:
(A) Internal Evaluation: Internal Evaluation shall be based on Sessional Examinations, Home Assignments, Seminars, Class attendance, and library works in each semester.Internal Evaluation is followed by a final examination at the end of the semester conducted by Gauhati University.The pass marks in each theory paper is 30% and in each practical paper the pass percentage is as per the university regulation.
In each paper student must secure pass marks in both the internal as well as the external evaluation separately.
A student who could not appear or failed in any semester examination will be allowed to clear the same as follows:
a. First Semester with the regular Third Semester Examination b. Second semester with the regular Fourth Semester Examination c. Third Semester with regular Fifth Semester Examination d. Fourth semester with regular sixth semester examination
A student may be allowed to repeat any one of the theory papers in the first, second, third and fourth semester and may be allowed for betterment of marks in one paper in the fifth Semester, provided students secures less than 45% marks in the paper.
No repeat/betterment shall be allowed in practical examinations in any semester.
A student must pass all his/her semester examination, including repeat and betterment chances within five years from the date of admission to the first semester course. A student will get a maximum of three chances to clear a particular semester.
N.B: For further clarification the students may go through the regulation of Gauhati University.
The Internal Evaluation will carry maximum 20% weightage and shall be a continuous process through Sessional Examinations, Home Assignment(s), Seminar(s), Co-curricular activities and Incentive for Attendance in class. The break-up of the Internal Evaluation marks have been shown below:-
I. Honours (Maximum Marks: 20) for CBCS Course
a) Sessional Examinations: 08
b) Home Assignments: 04
c) Seminar/Presentation: 03
d) Attendance Incentive: 03
i) 75% - 85% = 01
ii) 85% - 95% = 02
iii) Above 95% = 03
e) Co-curricular activities: 02
II. Regular (Maximum Marks: 20) for CBCS Course
a) Sessional Examination: 08
b) Home Assignment: 04
c) Seminar/Presentation: 03
d) Attendance: 03
i) 75% - 85% = 01
ii) 85% - 95% = 02
iii) Above 95% = 03
e) Co-curricular activities: 02
Attendance of the Students in Classes as well as in academic activities is mandatory. Class attendance shall be counted and published every month by each department. Only those students who attend minimum 75% and above in each individual subject shall be allowed to appear in the University Examinations (for BA/B.Com Courses) and AHSEC Examination (for HS Classes).
Students failing to acquire 75% Attendance in Classes will not be eligible eligible to apply for any scholarship or contest in the Students Union Election as per recommendation of Shri J.M Lyngdoh Commission to the Honourable Supreme Court of India.
(B) External Examination:
1. End Semester Examinations for Odd Semesters are held in the month of November and the same for Even Semesters are organized in the month of June.
2. A student of BA/B.Com classes who could not appear or failed in any Semester Examination will be allowed to clear the same as follows:-
a) 1st Semester with the regular 3rd Semester Examination.
b) 2nd Semester with the regular 4th Semester Examination.
c) 4th Semester with the regular 6th Semester Examination.
3. As per the University Guide Lines for CBCS Courses, A student must pass all his/her semester Examination including "Repeat" and betterment chances within five (5) years from the date of admission/registration in the 1st Semester course. A student will get a maximum three (3) chances to clear a particular Semester.
However, the newly introduced FYUGP Courses under NEP-2020 offers multiple exit and entry opportunities with A student leaving the course at the end of the First year with a Certificate, at the end of the Second year with a Diploma, at the end of the Third year with a Degree and at the end of the Fourth year with a Degree with Honours.
4. Although 75% of attendance is mandatory, a student of any Honours Course remaining absent for 10 (ten) consecutive teaching days, except on genuine medical ground, shall forfeit his/her seat. However, submission of appeals, if any, on medical ground shall have to be forwarded by the concerned Head of the Department.
5. A student may be allowed to "Repeat" any one of the Honours papers in the 1st, 2nd & 3rd semester.
6. No "Repeat" shall be allowed in 4th, 5th & 6th semester.
7. In case of any dispute regarding evaluation or unforeseen event the matter may be placed in the Committee of Courses and Studies (U.G.) for amicable settlement.
8. Since the Semester system involves continuous assessment, there would be no scope for a Student to appear as a private/ non collegiate candidate in any subject.
