Founded in 1979, the Department of Accountancy at Pramathesh Barua College in Gauripur has established itself as a premier institution dedicated to excellence in accounting education. Positioned to foster the next generation of accounting professionals, the department focuses on equipping students with comprehensive theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and ethical foundations necessary to excel in the fast-evolving financial landscape.
The mission of the Department of Accountancy is to cultivate proficient, ethical, and innovative accounting professionals through rigorous curriculum, research-driven insights, and an environment that encourages intellectual growth and community engagement.
The Department offers a Higher Secondary Course affiliated to AHSEC and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) with a specialization in Accountancy affiliated to Gauhati University, which is designed to cover a broad spectrum of accounting and finance-related subjects including but not limited to Financial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Taxation, Auditing, and Corporate Finance. The curriculum is continuously updated to integrate the latest industry standards and technologies, preparing students not just for local but global commerce challenges.
During the initial years, the Department of Accountancy (Commerce) was glorified by the renowned founder teachers, namely, Late Dhiren Paul, Late Dilip Bagaria and Mr. Abdul Barik Ahmed (Retired), and other eminent personalities such as Late Bikash Chandra Saha, Late Tankeswar Das, Mr. Sudip Chanda (Retired) and Mr. Kalidas Saha (Retired).They contributed a lot to establish, develop and to make the department a premier institute of the district for commerce education. The present faculty at the department consists of distinguished scholars and seasoned professionals, many of whom hold advanced degrees and credentials. They are committed to high standards of teaching, mentorship, and research. The department has a long tradition of dynamism, accessibility, communication and performance. Students issues are always attended first. With the introduction of semester system under Gauhati University, the department took active part in Project Work and Report preparation for the students and this has been continuing till date.
