About the Department
The department of History is one of the most important departments in the P. B. College, Gauripur. The Department offers History at +2 Level as courses of study. At degree level History is taught as both pass and major subjects. With good number of students and required faculty members, the department has already completed glorious fifty years. The outgoing teachers, students, present teaching staff and students of the department extend their sincere and dedicated service for the all round development of the department as well as the Institution. A humble attempt has been made to introduce the department and its activities and achievements through this profile.
Brief history of the Department
The Department of history was set up as early as in 1964 with the inception of the college with seven departments. The classes of PU (Arts) were first taken at PC Institution.
Prof Late Habibur Rahman MA(GU) first joined as lecturer in the one man department. Then Prof. Late Dhirendra Chandra Nath joined as the second man in the department. For a few years it was a two men department.
Then Miss Supti Raha joined as the third lecturer against a sanctioned post. After that Miss Rita Kalita, Mr Indra Narayan Mahanta,Mr. Abdul Motleb Mandal, Mr. Phanindhar Deka served as lecturer in the college for some specific periods. After the departure of Mr. P Deka from this college to Barbhang College of Nalbari, Miss Ajanta Brahma MA M.Phil (NEHU) also served as lecturer for a few years till July 1993, who subsequently joined in State Council of Educational Research and Training (S.C.E.R.T.) Guwahati.
Later on, Mr Nur Mahammad Sarkar and MR. Joddar joined as lecturer in the college.
Prof. Late. Habibur Rahman retired from his service in September 1995 and then Dubori Dolisa Choudhury joined as a Lecturer in this vacant post after Prof. Rahman\'s retirement.
Thereafter Mr. Zakir Hussain joined as lecturer in the department.
Mr. Nur Mahammad Sarker retired from his Service in 2017 and Himen Das joined the Vacant Port as an Assistant Professor & on 09 December 2023
